What Millie's been up to lately
Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I've been meaning to, but life just keeps happening!
Millie just keeps growing up. She is talking very clearly and understands a lot.
Last night she really surprised me. I was going to scramble her an egg for dinner while I fixed us some tuna, but she wanted to try the tuna. So I gave her a small piece, expecting her to spit it out. No. She asked for more. WHOA! And then I was eating some homemade beef jerky that was a little spicy. Of course she wanted to try it and she liked it too. So for dinner she ate albacore tuna (plain), corn off-the-cob, and 3 dried plums.
She spent the latter part of last week and the weekend with Nana and Papa. And they bragged on her saying that she slept so well and ate just about everything put in front of her. We think that they just gave her ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner, b/c a lot of times, she pushes food away at our house. And she hasn't been sleeping that great either. Of course, she is a smart baby and she's probably figured out that once she starts fussing and crying, someone will be there to pick her up (shame on Daddy and Mawt Maw). Just kidding, I have gone in a few times too.
And Nana and Papa taught Millie a cute little game (if you want to call it that). She thinks it is so funny. What you do is, you act like you are falling asleep. And then Millie says, "Wake up!" And you wake up, all excited and refreshed. She just laughs and laughs!!
She still won't eat cherry tomatoes, although she ate one-half of one yesterday. But she does like chicken now (finally) and now loves, drum roll please.....BROCCOLI! Nana and Papa got her to eat it first and now she loves it.
She likes to take your nose and then asks you if you'd like it back. Of course I want it back. I would look awfully funny without it and would miss out on so many smells.
She still loves to read books. She just got a few for her birthday. She especially loves one of her new books, Silly Sally. Silly Sally, walking backwards, upside down. On the way, she met a pig. A silly pig, they danced a jig. On each page, Millie has to turn the book upside down so she can look at Silly Sally right side up.
I'll post more things later. Got to get back to work!!

Millie is talking more and more
Millie has really been saying a lot more words lately, and saying them clearly. I'll be reading her a book and she'll be saying what each thing is in the book.
Some words that she is saying right now: Bus, Mouse, Truck, Cold, Hot, Cat, Dog, Bubbles, Mess, Milk, Babies....and my mind has gone blank as I type this.
She is also distinguishing between boy and girl. We look at books and she points out boy or girl. And does the same when we are out and about. She's pretty much got it figured out.
Also wanted to record that she is loving Bob the Builder books. We got a lot of the books from Aunt Lexi and cousin Ryan and she loves to read the books. And she even says "Bob." There are a few books that stay in regular rotation; Goodnight Moon, The Going to Bed Book, Clap Your Hands, Baby and Bunny, and more.

Observant/Independent
I've been noticing lately that Millie is becoming more observant of her surroundings. She remembers where everyone sits at the dining room table (and even at Nana and Papa's house too).
She remembers certain parts of a book we read a lot and will do the signs relating to the book. For example, in her Fire Engine Book, we will get to the part where we actually see the flames, and she'll say and sign "hot" and then say and sign "pain." We get to the next page where the fire has been put out and the firemen are going home and there is one that has dirt on his face and she'll say and sign "bath" and "bed/tired" and "milk" b/c I've told her that he probably goes home and has some milk before he goes to bed. It's just fun seeing her practically read the book to me, so to speak.
She also is becoming very independent. I will try to help her get dressed and she'll whine and say, "Me" although we know she is just trying to say "Millie". But she wants to do it by herself. Sometimes she does get frustrated and we have to remind her to ask for help, but most of the time she is successful.

Millie is now 20 mos old
We are actually getting nearer to the 2-yr mark and I can't believe it. Didn't we just celebrate Millie's 1st birthday? She is talking so much more now and understands just about everything that you say. She is still using her sign language and I believe that has enhanced her language skills. I can ask Millie to go put some dirty clothes in her hamper and she'll walk right into her room and put them in the hamper. She likes to help clean her room and other parts of the house, too.
She still enjoys taking a shower and loves to get in with mommy, sometimes in the mornings. She loves to read books and one of her favorites right now is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?" and "Bear's House." She actually says, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear.....see?" She said "teacher" last week and we were astonished.
She loves milk so much that, if we let her, she would drink a gallon a day. She also still loves her beans and actually ate two bowls of burrito mix last night for dinner. She hates having her teeth brushed and sometimes doesn't like getting her diaper changed or getting her clothes changed. It doesn't make any sense, or is it really supposed to?
She loves to dance and loves music - all kinds too! She loves to dress like her daddy, complete with overalls and her boots. She likes going to church to play and pray (and actually tells the crying babies to "shush....") She can say pretty clearly now: "squirrel", "bird", and "mermaid." She also says "trash" and "side" - meaning "outside". We have two trash cans in our entry way - one is a trash can and the other is for recycling. Most of the time, she will put things in their respective cans; sometimes she does it by herself w/o us asking and other times, we'll ask her.
She's a people-person although it takes her a few moments to warm up to someone new. She has a great, easy-going personality - happy most of the time. She has really been a special addition to our family (immediate and extended).
She's sometimes a picky eater; one day eating one thing, and the next turning her nose up. I guess that's how a toddler is though. We just have to roll with the punches.
And now, everytime we get some change, we always save it for her and she knows exactly where to put it. She has two piggy banks in her room and our big bank in our room.
She is very loving and just learned yesterday how to give Eskimo kisses. She sleeps well, most of the time. But never say to yourself that you've figured it out b/c as soon as you do, it will all change.

Millie asks for a specific book
Last night I was reading to Millie before she went to bed. We read Monster's Book of Numbers and when we finished, she actually asked for a specific book - one of her favorites. It's called Clap Your Hands by Lorinda Bryan Cauley. She was clapping her hands and it took me a second and then I realized what she wanted.
